How long does it take for the search
engines to list my site?
It is entirely up to each search engine or directory.
Please note that many search engines take a few days
to a few weeks to index your web sites to their database.
Many major search engines take more than 4 weeks even
8 weeks to index your web page. Please give yourself
enough time for the engines to add your site to the
database.
What
is Link Popularity?
Link popularity and click popularity are determined
by each search engine. AltaVista may calculate a high
popularity for your site, whereas Infoseek may calculate
a low popularity for your site. Each search engine may
also use the popularity information in different ways.
It will all depend on their specific algorithms. Popularity
is becoming more widely used by search engines. Therefore,
it is a very important consideration when trying to
increase your ranks. Hypothetically, if you have two
sites that have equal content and equal meta tags, then
the site with more popularity will rank higher.
The link popularity of your site is determined
by:
The number of web sites that are linking to your site
(the web page that your link appears on, must be indexed
by the search engine - just using those "free-for-all-links-pages"
is not the kind of link that you're looking for.), The
popularity of the sites are that are linking to your
site and the similarity of the content on sites that
link to your site. Link popularity is used by every
search engine to some extent.
How to find out who's Linking to you:
Google: Type into search box: link:www.yourdomain.com
This will give you a general estimate of your popularity.
It will also tell you approximately how many pages from
your site are listed with google.
AltaVista: Type into search box: link:yourdomain.com
This will give you all of the pages which link to you,
the same as google.
AllTheWeb: Type into search box: link:yourdomain.com
Again, this may give you some of the pages which are
linking to you.
What is a meta tag?
META tags are used by some search engines to determine
the ranking of your site in their search results.
Do I need meta tags?
Yes, and the most important "tag" is the title,
followed by the description "tag".
Which search engines and directories
do you submit to?
We only submit your site to the top search engines and
directories, These are the ones that will generate traffic
to your site. No junk, just real search engines and
directories. You can see the list of search engines
and directories we submit to here.
What is the difference between a Search
Engine, FFA and a Directory?
Search Engines rely on automated tools
called "robots" to collect information from
websites. This information is added to the Search Engine's
database, based on a number of criteria, including page
content, page title, links, etc. Google
and MSN
Search are two well-known Search Engines.
Directories use human editors to look
at websites and to decide how to categorize sites for
inclusion. Yahoo!
and Open
Directory Project are two popular Directories.
FFA - Free For All links (FFA) are
pages in which links to website can be entered together
with a short comment. Owners of websites thereby enter
the registration themselves, and there is no editing
board to review the entries. It is free and becomes
immediately effective.
What are Search Engine robots?
Robots are automated tools used by Search Engines
to look at a website. When a robot crawls your site,
it notes the title and content of your web pages, links
within the site, etc. The Search Engine uses this information
to decide what your site is about, so that it can properly
categorize it in the Search Engine's database.
Why isn't my site listed on the search
engines?
This occurs for a variety of reasons. Many search engine
and directory sites require between 6 weeks up to 6
months to list a site. Your site could also be listed
but not ranking properly.
Will I receive spam after my site is
submitted?
Some of the search engines and directories sends out
a confirmation email. You may also be added to their
newsletter. We recommend that you use an alternative
email account for the submission.
Will you submit my site to all
search engines in your list?
Your website will be added to all the engines on the
list that match your profile. Some engines are restricted
to certain countries or parts of the world. We will
however, submit your website to at least 120 search
engines and directories. Note that not all submissions
will be successful. Search engines and directories are
sometimes unable to accept a submission due to downtime,
upgradings of their system or some other reason.
Parts of my site is "under
construction" can I still submit it to the search
engines?
We recommend that you do not submit sites with "under
construction" pages, they will probably not be
accepted by most of the directories.
Do you provide a submission report?
Yes, a submission report in HTML format will be sent
to you via email, within minutes after you submit. This
lets you know where you were successfully submitted,
and what sites your website was not submitted to.
How can I improve my ranking
in the Search Engines and Directories?
The best way to improve your ranking is by incorporating
good design and good content into your pages. People
who come to a website are looking for information, and
the best sites are those with the best information.
If you have good text and tell a compelling story, you
will rank higher. If it is easier for people to move
around your site to collect that information, you will
rank higher.
How might I hurt my ranking in
the Search Engines or Directories?
One obvious answer is the lack of good content in your
pages. In addition, there are certain technologies which,
if integrated into your site, may actually decrease
the ranking of your site: frames, Flash movies, image
maps, reliance on JavaScript for navigation, dynamic
pages, and several others. These technologies, while
making a site exciting for human visitors, can cause
problems for the Search Engine robots. Robots don't
understand these design elements, and may not fully
crawl your site. This means that your site may not be
fully included in the Search Engines.
How often shall I submit my web
sites to search engines? (Does my web site will be banned
by search engines if I submit to often?)
Different engines act differently. Generally, you can
re-submit your web site once per month.
For Spider Engines, if your web site
has been indexed already, the search engine's "Robot"
will re-visit your web site at a regular time(normally
once or twice per month) and update their database with
the changes you have made.
For Directory Engines, generally you
don't need to re-submit it again if your web site has
been indexed already. Most of the directory engines
only accept the one main URL only. If you over submit,
you will be considered as "spam" may cause
your web site to be banned by the search engines.
You can re-submit your web site again if you make any
changes to your web site. We suggest that you should
always make some minor changes to your web site, so
that the search engines will consider your web site
are well maintain and it will also help to improving
your web ranking. If your web site isn't indexed by
the search engines, you can re-submit your web site
again once per month. We suggest that make some changes
to your web site contents before re-submitting.
Avoid Spamming
If you submit your web site too often, you will be considered
as "spam" and your web site will be banned
by the search engines. Here are some general rules when
submitting your web site:
1. Do not submit the SAME URL multiple times in one
day.
2. Do not submit more than 5 different URLs under the
same domain in one day.
3. If you have many URLs(or pages) under the same domain,
please only submit 3 to 5 pages each day.
4. Always make some changes to your web site before
re-submitting.
5. Do not re-submit the SAME URL more than once per
month.
Why are there submission failures on
the Submission Report?
Because of the ever-changing nature of Search Engines,
internet traffic condition, and network congestion on
the Internet, it is not uncommon that you will experience
some failures on each submission campaign. Normally,
you can simply re-submit the failed engines again at
an other time.
Why aren’t my web sites
indexed by the Search Engines? (We have
been using your service for around 5 weeks now, submitting
about every week or so, however, we’re not showing
up anywhere on any of the major Search Engines. What
am I doing wrong?)
Your web site URLs are embedded in JavaScript.
This is the most common reason why your web sites are
not indexed by the Search Engines. If your web site
URLs are embedded in JavaScript, most of the Search
Engines will not recognize and index these pages. If
you're serious about getting your web sites to be indexed
by the Search Engines and get a good position on the
MAJOR Search Engines such as AltaVista, Lycos, Yahoo
and many others, please consider changing your web site
style, either by putting your links in simple html format
or making alternative links at the bottom of your page
just for the Search Engines.
There are no or little content on your web pages
If your web site was designed for "Nice looking"
which means it contains only the Image, Flash, Java,
Image map etc, and there is no actual text information
(or just little text) on your web pages, your web pages
will be ignored by the Search Engines because Search
Engines will index the web sites, which contain valuable
information. Please put any real useful information
in text format to your web pages.
Your web site is a Frame style
Most major Search Engines do not support Frame style
of the web sites. If you wish your web sites to be indexed
by the Search Engines and get good results, please consider
changing your web sites to a non-frame style.
Using the correct Html Tags
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE></TITLE>
<META name="description" content="put
a short description here">
<META name="keywords" content="put
your keywords here">
</HEAD>
<BODY BGCOLOR=FFFFFF>
Put your contents here ....
</BODY>
</HTML>
Some Search Engines such as AltaVista and Google completely
ignore websites that have invalid html tag sequences.
Also, please make sure you use the close tags correctly.
For e.g. <font> requires that you have </font>,
<table> requires a </table>. Your browser
may display it correctly, but if you want the page to
be indexed, check your codes and put them in order.
Do not use any Virtual Domain Redirection Service
If you are using an Internet Redirection Service to
make it easy for people to remember your website address,
please do not use the Redirection web site address for
your submission, use your real web site URL to submit
to the Search Engines.
Using normal .html (or .htm) file format
If the contents of your web pages are generated at real
time by using a script such as .cgi, .asp etc rather
than a normal .html (or .htm) file, you are taking the
risk that your web sites may be ignored by the Search
Engines, because Search Engines want to index the web
pages where they knew what the information is.
Meta Refresh and Meta Robots Tags
Check your codes for the following tags between the
<head> and </head>.
<meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="0;
URL=http://www.other-domain.com/directory/filename.html">
This tag redirects your page to another web site. If
you have this tag in your code, the robots will usually
completely ignore your website altogether.
<meta name="ROBOTS" content="NOINDEX,
NOFOLLOW">
This tag specifically directs robots to ignore that
web page. If you have it in your code, remove it immediately.
You can use it on pages you do not want Search Engines
to index.
Are You Using Free Website Hosting?
Many free website hosts use various methods of enforcing
their advertising banners on your ite. This sometimes
causes wrong and/or incomplete indexing of your website.
If you haverepeatedly have trouble with getting your
free website indexed, switch to a pay web hosting provider.
Should I submit all my web pages
or just the main index page?
For Directory engines, most of them
only accept main page. For this reason, you should submit
the main page only to the directory engines. However,
if your web site covers different type of the products
or services, you can submit each product page as well.
For Spider engines, most of them cliam
that the engine robot will collect all the URLs from
your main page, however, our reserch shows that there
is not guarnatee all your web pages will be indexed
by the search engines. For this reason, we recommand
to submit all your web pages include the main index
page.
Why does my position on Search Engines constantly change?
The criteria used by Search Engines for ranking Web
sites is based on so many variables that it is almost
impossible to precisely predict where your site will
be positioned from one day to the next. Such factors
include: the number of other pages (sites) using similar
'keywords', keyword relevancy to the contents of your
web site, cross link within your web site, how many
external links to your web site, constantly changing
listing criteria (algorithms) used by Search Engines
and many other factors. This is why it is important
to regularly submit your Web site details to every Search
Engine and Web directory using a submission program
like Dynamic Submission, and then to check its effectiveness
with Dynamic Web Ranking. Working hand in hand they
will provide the tools to ensure prominent exposure
for your Web site on all those important Web resources.
